AMERICAN JERSEY CATTLE ASSOCIATION
NATIONAL ALL-JERSEY INC.

Assistant Editor-Production, Jersey Journal

A position as Assistant Editor-Production of Jersey Journal, the official publication of the American Jersey Cattle Association and  National All-Jersey Inc., is available immediately. The successful candidate will provide breeders of Registered Jersey™ cattle with informative editorial content and effective, efficient cattle marketing through the Jersey Journal and Jersey Journal website, and also the services of Jersey Marketing Service (JMS) in an integrated publishing environment.

This is a full-time position. Benefits include health and life insurance, and 401k plan.

Title:            Assistant Editor-Production, Jersey Journal

Objective:  To provide breeders of Registered Jersey™ cattle with newsworthy editorial and effective, efficient cattle marketing through the Jersey Journal and Jersey Journal website, and also the services of Jersey Marketing Service (JMS) in an integrated publishing environment.

Reports To:  Editor, Jersey Journal

Location:  Based at AJCA-NAJ headquarters, Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Editor, Production has primary responsibilities for the following functions:

·        Responsible for maintaining show reports, the Jersey calendar, and Along the Jersey Road in each month’s publication;

·        Conducting advertising sales, serving an established base of contract advertisers, and developing new contract advertisers; researching, designing and producing advertising for these Jersey owners advertising in Jersey Journal on a contract and occasional basis;

·        Researching, interviewing and writing feature articles for the Jersey Journal, and assisting with special editorial sections throughout the year;

·        Proofreading advertising and editorial content at all stages of magazine production, assist with preparation and layout of Jersey Journal for printer;

·        Maintaining the Jersey Journal subscription list;

·        Maintaining cattle photography database for Jersey Journal and Jersey Marketing Service;

·        Assisting with the production of the Jersey Directory every 18 months, conducting listing sales, and helping to design;

·        Assisting with maintenance of the Jersey Journal website;

·        Assisting in development of flyers and outside advertising for Jersey Marketing Service sales;

·        Other miscellaneous duties that correspond with Jersey Journal design and special projects.

Requirements:  College graduate with degree in agriculture, communication/journalism or equivalent experience. Must demonstrate excellent skills in time management, research, creative design, and proofreading, plus be familiar with industry-standard publishing software (e.g., PageMaker/InDesign, Photoshop, Office Suite). Position requires individual initiative and exercise of good judgment. Work must be organized to maintain timely production of the magazine. Professional demeanor and presentation on the phone and in face-to-face contact on the farm and at industry events is expected.

Contact: Frequent contact with staff, customers and dairy industry personnel.

Working Conditions: Full-time position. Works in an office setting, but requires occasional overnight travel. Evenings, weekends, and holidays could be required to carry out responsibilities.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
