Enter the National Jersey Youth Production Contest. Every junior between the ages of 9 and 20 on January of the contest year can enter their highest producing cow that completed a DHIR or DHIA record between January 1 and December 31 of this year. Awards will be made in two divisions, and an overall contest winner will be determined. You do not have to be a winner in a state production contest to enter this event. Click here for the entry form or enter online. Entries will be accepted through March 1.

More about the National Achievement Contest. We’re often asked about the requirements for entering the National Jersey Youth Achievement Contest.

The state Jersey associations are responsible for selecting up to two (2) state winners. So, to have a chance in this activity—which provides cash awards of $2,000 to the 10 winners, plus the opportunity to receive a Jack C. Nisbet Scholarship—work at compiling high quality, detailed records on the breeding and management of your Registered Jerseys and get involved in state and national Jersey youth work.

Get transfers in order for junior show season. Here's the question we often receive this time of year:  Please advise me as to what steps a junior needs to take in order to show a Jersey at all shows. Can an animal be leased or does the animal need to be transferred into the junior’s ownership?

The answer is simple. The most direct route—and the one which ensures eligibility no matter where the show is—is to transfer the animal’s ownership into the junior exhibitor’s name. By doing so, there’s no question that the animal has been designated as the junior’s project animal. So, submit the transfer of ownership as soon as you figure out which animals are going to be your projects this year. That one step will save you the effort of researching the exhibitor ownership requirements for all the shows you are considering, and the extra paperwork involved in filing ownership affidavits.

Scholarships for your college education. If you are a high school senior, or will be continuing your college education, be sure to apply for one of the Jersey Youth Scholarships. Over $10,000 will be awarded to students selected to receive the Nisbet, Jackson, Peterson, Russell and Cedarcrest scholarships and the Cowles and Toole Youth Awards. If you want to have a good chance at winning one of these scholarships, keep your school grades up, get involved in Jersey activities at the state and national level, and be sure to keep good records.

National Jersey Queen Contest. If you think you would be interested in serving as the National Jersey Queen, then take a look at the age requirements and rules on the contest entry form.

Benefits of junior membership. If you are not a junior member, why not apply?  When you are a junior member, you can register your animals at member rates. Just a friendly reminder to be sure that you get the best deal: Register your calves before they are six months old.
