The scholarship program of the American Jersey Cattle Association offers over $15,000 for post-secondary students, from entering college freshmen through graduate school. The awards include:
  • Jack C. Nisbet Memorial Scholarship
  • Paul Jackson Memorial Scholarship
  • V. L. Peterson Scholarship
  • William A. Russell Memorial Scholarship
  • Reuben R. Cowles Youth Award
  • Cedarcrest Farms Scholarship
  • Russell-Malnati Scholarship for Advanced Studies
  • Bob Toole Youth Award
  • Fred Stout Experience (application deadline, February 1 annually)

Applications for the next cycle (2009-2010) must be postmarked Wednesday, July 1, 2009 or before. Applications will not be considered unless transcript(s) are received within one (1) week of the application deadline (on or before July 7).

Recipients will be notified in mid-August and awards presented at the Junior Banquet in November.

Qualifications

  • A minimum grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4-point scale) is required to apply for these scholarships. A copy of the most recent transcript(s) listing all completed coursework must be included with the scholarship application. Applications will not be considered without receipt of transcript(s).

  • National Jersey Scholarships: a single application to apply for these five scholarships:
    • Jackson and Peterson scholarships (students who have completed at least one year of college);
    • Russell scholarship (entering college freshmen);
    • Cedarcrest scholarship (undergraduate and graduate students seeking a degree in large animal veterinary practice, dairy production, dairy manufacturing, or dairy product marketing); and
    • Toole Award (may be applied to college expenses or a clearly defined practical educational experience related to breeding, developing and showing Registered Jerseys™).
  • Russell-Malnati Scholarship for Advanced Studies: Apply ONLY if you are an undergraduate student who has completed at least one-half of coursework credit hours required for a degree in dairy science, animal science (dairy emphasis), large animal veterinary practice, dairy production or manufacturing, or dairy product marketing, OR a graduate student in the same degree program areas.   • Reuben R. Cowles Youth Award: eligibility limited to residents of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee or Virginia.
  • Eligibility for the Jack C. Nisbet Scholarship is restricted to individuals who are nominated for the current year's National Jersey Youth Achievement Contest. Applications are not distributed to other individuals.
