POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Programmer

The American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA) is seeking a programmer to join the Information Technology team. Benefits include health and life insurance and 401k plan.

Organized in 1868, the AJCA is the second-largest dairy cattle registration organization in the United States. It maintains identification and performance records and provides services that support genetic improvement and greater profitability through increasing the value of and demand for Registered Jersey™ cattle and genetics. The AJCA was the first dairy breed organization in the U.S. to deliver web-based customer service and currently offers a comprehensive suite of tools to its customers. The association reported all-time records for utilization of core services in 2011, and is planning for continued growth and expansion.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Programmer

OBJECTIVE: To work in small team environment, building and supporting applications for data exchange and utilization by customers and also internal processing services.

REPORTS TO: IT Manager

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Author and maintain new code, including both front-end interfaces and back-end components, that integrates with existing systems and meets system standards

  • Document code and deliver complete technical documentation

  • Maintain and enhance existing code, and troubleshoot problems that may arise in existing programs

  • Data operations and data exchanges with industry partners

  • Analyze business needs to contribute to program design

  • Undertake other projects and/or duties as instructed by the IT Manager and/or Executive Secretary

PLACEMENT STANDARDS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Microsoft server systems and Microsoft development environments

  • Desire and ability to learn customized computing platform

  • Proficient in VB.NET, ASP.NET and HTML

  • Familiarity with DotNetNuke a plus

  • Experience with SQL Server and ADO.NET data access

  • Familiarity with VBScript, JavaScript and ASP

  • Knowledge and ability to assist with training and support for MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Strong capabilities for problem-solving

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to complete programs to deadline

  • General knowledge of agriculture and/or the dairy industry a plus

SALARY
Commensurate with qualifications

Working Conditions:

  1. Normal office hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  2. Employees offered 30-minute lunch and two (2) 15-minute breaks.
